Ogulagha community in Burutu L.G.A of Delta State has been in tension and turmoil following the incident of a 27 year old Endurance Kalaepele who was allegedly shot and killed by soldiers attached to Forcadoes Terminal.
Reports from punchng has it that the young man was allegedly shot twice by the soldiers while snail-hunting in the company of 5 other youths.
The incident is said to have happened by 11pm on Monday.
The youths of the community have taken over major roads rampaging and destroying company properties and vehicles as a sign of expressing their anger over what happened.
The youth leader of the community, Mr ThankGod Iyaragba in his words told the journalists, “Around 10:00p.m yesterday (Monday), six of the community boys went to the bush behind Forcadoes Terminal, the Pipeline bush, for snail picking, but we’re intercepted on their way back by the military men….
“One of the boys, Endurance, tried to run out of fear but was shot twice at close range…
“This infuriated youths of the community who went on the rampage destroying company properties and vehicles…
“They have also taken over the major roads of the community to express their anger”.
The Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Political Matters, Comrade Ozobo Austin, has described the killing of Endurance Kalaepele as “unprofessional, provocative and barbaric” which could incite unrest in the community.
This was contained in a signed statement he gave to the press on Tuesday afternoon.
The Special Assistant sympathized with the entire Ogulagha community and asked the youths to calm down while assuring them that the Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa will make investigations on the incident and bring every soldier that was involved in the terrible act to book. Ozobo also advices security authorities to be civilized when dealing with law abiding citizens.
