The presidential candidate for the All Progressive Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has earlier disclosed that Kashim Shettima is now his running mate for the presidential race.
He made this announcement on July 10th, while in Katsina State after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari.
This means that Tinubu has now settled for a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Prior to this time, Tinubu chose Ibrahim Kabiru Masari as placeholder for the vice-presidential slot.
Masari Resigns As Running Mate
Ibrahim Masari said that he is willing to serve the party in other capacities. He said this while resigning as the running mate for Tinubu.
In his statement tagged, “Resignation As APC’ Vice Presidential Nominee”,“This is to inform our esteemed party leaders under our able President Muhammadu Buhari, teeming party members and the great people of Nigeria, of the outcome of a crucial discussion I just had with the flag-bearer of our great party, All Progressives Congress APC, Bola Tinubu.
“Recall that I had the singular honour and privilege of being nominated as the running-mate to Asiwaju Tinubu last month after a keenly contested presidential primaries ahead of the 2023 general elections.
“But, after much reflection and wider consultations, I now wish to step down. I realized that my decision will enable Asiwaju have more latitude to give more accommodation and inclusion that will position our party to win the coming elections, with the support of the people of Nigeria.
“In stepping down, I believe I can still serve our party and the country in several other capacities.
“I wish to confirm that I have submitted my withdrawal letter and affidavit to that effect as the Vice Presidential Candidate to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the coming elections.
Senator Kashim Shettima is an outspoken politician from Borno State. He has so far been very successful in politics and has held various political offices so far. He was a commissioner in 3 ministries in Borno State from 2008 till 2011 when he contested for the Governorship elections in Borno State after which he won under the now defunct All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP). Kashim also won the re-elections in 2015 thereby, remaining the governor of Borno till 2019. Kashim Shettima is now a senator with the National Assembly.
